The Opportunity

The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is seeking a strategic leader to serve as the Programme Manager for Supply Chain Integrity. This is a senior-level opportunity based in Bonn, Germany, designed for a professional capable of safeguarding the credibility of global forest supply chains.

Through a rigorous certification system, we ensure forest products are sourced in a way that protects biodiversity and supports local communities. As the Programme Manager, you will play a central role in maintaining the trust associated with the FSC “check-tree” label.

Scope of Work

Your primary mandate is to ensure the integrity of FSC supply chains. You will identify, substantiate, and halt fraud and false claims within the system.

This role moves beyond simple oversight. It requires the implementation of strategic interventions to detect fraud using advanced data analysis, partnerships, and expert tools. You will provide mentorship to a growing team of experts, fostering a culture aligned with FSC values.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Management

  • Define and execute objectives for the Supply Chain Integrity (SCI) team, including budget management and strategic workplans.
  • Make critical decisions regarding team functions and supply chain integrity topics.
  • Lead and mentor team members, ensuring high-quality deliverables and proper record-keeping.

Operational Oversight & Investigation

  • Manage the development and implementation of the integrity workplan.
  • Oversee outcomes of integrity investigations, including blockage cases. You will ensure strict compliance with FSC normative requirements and legal obligations.
  • Modernize internal systems for conducting investigations, defining data requests, and managing results.

Stakeholder Engagement & System Improvement

  • Organize and moderate internal steering committee meetings.
  • Act as the primary point of leadership for all supply chain integrity concerns, including crisis communications.
  • collaborate with the System Integrity Unit, Assurance Services International (ASI), and certification bodies.
  • Drive normative changes and technical improvements for tools such as FSC Trace, GIS tools, and Wood ID.

Reporting & Representation

  • Utilize ground-level intelligence to inform FSC assurance strategies.
  • Represent FSC at external expert forums.
  • Deliver progress reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Candidate Profile

To succeed in this role, you must possess strong analytical skills and a background in ensuring compliance or quality control.

Education & Experience

  • University degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business Administration, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, International Relations).
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in certification, quality assurance, forensic investigation, auditing, or standard development.
  • Familiarity with FSC certification or other accreditation processes is essential.
  • Experience in auditing is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies

  • Proven capability in project management and financial administration.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing diverse groups.
  • Ability to liaise effectively with directors and external partners to ensure consistent technical analysis.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization software (e.g., MS Office, Power BI).

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of Spanish or French is an asset.
