Operational Context

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Somalia is advancing a portfolio of digital interventions designed to improve service delivery and community engagement. To ensure these tools are adopted and effective, we are recruiting a National Product Designer (UI/UX).

While the beneficiary country is Somalia, this assignment will be based in Kenya. We require a design professional who moves beyond aesthetics to focus on usability, accessibility, and the creation of intuitive user journeys for complex development challenges.

Scope of Assignment

The consultant will act as the bridge between technical functionality and user needs. You will work alongside software engineers to translate complex requirements into clean, functional digital products.

Key Responsibilities

1. User Research and Strategy

  • Conduct user research to understand the specific behaviors, constraints, and needs of the target audience in Somalia.
  • Translate research findings into user personas, user journeys, and sitemaps that inform the architectural design of the product.

2. Interface and Experience Design

  • Create low-fidelity wireframes to establish basic structure and flow before development begins.
  • Develop high-fidelity prototypes and interactive mockups to demonstrate functionality to stakeholders.
  • Design intuitive User Interfaces (UI) that are responsive, accessible, and aligned with UNDP branding standards.

3. Usability Testing and Handoff

  • Organize usability testing sessions to validate design decisions and identify friction points.
  • Prepare comprehensive design systems and assets for the development team to ensure pixel-perfect implementation.

Contract Details

  • Duration: The contract covers 75 working days spread over a period of six months.
  • Location: The consultant will be based in Kenya.
  • Type: National Consultancy (Open to candidates with valid work authorization in Kenya).
