The Role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) acts as a lifeline for people whose lives have been shattered by conflict and disaster. We are currently recruiting a Safety & Wellness (SW) Supervisor to lead our critical support programs in the Maryland/DC/Virginia (DMV) region.

This is a clinical leadership position. You will oversee a team dedicated to empowering the most vulnerable members of our community including survivors of human trafficking, victims of crime, and humanitarian immigrants. Your mandate is to guide your team in providing trauma-informed, culturally responsive care that helps individuals reclaim control of their futures.

Key Areas of Responsibility

Clinical Supervision & Team Leadership

  • Provide direct mentorship and supervision to frontline staff, ensuring adherence to the IRC’s People Manager Standards.
  • Train team members in core social work competencies, trauma-informed practices, and crisis protocols.
  • Act as the primary advisor on complex cases, helping staff navigate difficult client situations with professional judgment.
  • Drive program design and strategic planning in collaboration with the Program Manager.

Direct Service & Crisis Intervention

  • Step in to provide short-term counseling, psychosocial support, and crisis intervention during urgent situations.
  • Ensure continuity of care by providing direct client services when staff are absent.
  • Advocate for client needs within the broader social service ecosystem to support their path to self-sufficiency.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Maintain strict oversight of case files to ensure quality and adherence to grant requirements.
  • Monitor data collection and reporting to ensure all programmatic benchmarks are met.

Community Partnerships

  • Serve as the face of the IRC in local coalitions and initiatives related to safety and wellness.
  • Collaborate with the Anti-Trafficking Coordinator to co-lead training sessions and presentations for community partners.
  • Build a robust network of external resources to enhance client access to essential services.

Candidate Profile

This role requires a balance of clinical expertise and managerial capability.

Education & Licensure

  • Required: Master of Social Work (MSW) from an accredited university.
  • Preferred: Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) status in the state of Maryland.

Professional Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience in casework or human services focusing on safety and well-being.
  • Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated history of working with survivors of trafficking, victims of crime, or refugee populations.
  • Strong knowledge of the Trafficking Victims Protection Act (TVPA) and the social service landscape of the DMV area.

Skills & Competencies

  • Crisis Management: Ability to triage high-stress situations and provide immediate stabilization.
  • Communication: Excellent oral and written English. Fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred.
  • Tech Savvy: Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web-based case management databases.

Work Environment & Requirements

  • Schedule: This position requires a presence in the Silver Spring office approximately 4 days per week, with 1 day of remote work.
  • Mobility: You must possess a valid driver’s license, reliable vehicle, and current insurance. Transporting clients is a requirement of the role.
  • Flexibility: Occasional work outside standard business hours (evenings/weekends) may be required to meet client needs.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $70,000 USD.
