Organizational Context
UNICEF Jordan is a leader in the region for advocating and securing children’s rights. Working closely with the Government of Jordan, civil society, and the private sector, our Country Office strives to improve policies and national institutions in line with Jordan’s Vision 2025.
We are currently seeking a Senior Driver to join our Operations team. This role is critical not only for logistics but for maintaining the professional image of UNICEF in its interactions with government bodies and partners.
Position Mandate
The Senior Driver plays a pivotal role within the Protocol Section. While the core function involves providing safe and reliable transportation for staff and visitors, the scope extends significantly into protocol and administrative support.
You will act as a frontline representative of the organization, facilitating official processes at ministries, embassies, and the airport. This position requires a professional with high ethical standards, discretion, and the ability to navigate complex logistical environments.
Key Responsibilities
1. Transportation & Safety
- Transport staff, officials, and visitors to government offices, embassies, and field locations with a primary focus on safety and punctuality.
- Operate Vehicle Tracking Systems (VTS) and digital booking tools to log trips accurately and ensure compliance with security protocols.
- Maintain the assigned vehicle in optimal condition, conducting routine checks and ensuring emergency equipment (first aid kits, fire extinguishers) is functional.
2. Protocol & Liaison Support
- Facilitate airport VIP services, including meeting and greeting senior staff and assisting with immigration procedures.
- Support the Protocol Section by delivering and collecting official documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Ministry of Interior (MoI), and other authorities.
- Assist with the logistical aspects of visa processing, customs clearance for shipments, and vehicle registration renewals.
3. Administrative Coordination
- Liaise effectively with the Administration Unit, UNDSS, and security escorts during missions.
- Maintain accurate records of trips and protocol submissions, assisting with filing and database updates.
- Uphold strict confidentiality regarding official conversations or observations made during duty.
4. Mentorship & Development
- Serve as a role model for junior drivers regarding ethical driving behavior, route planning, and customer service.
- Participate in safety briefings and share knowledge on UN transport guidelines and emergency preparedness.
Candidate Profile
Essential Requirements
- Education: Completion of secondary education is required.
- Experience: Minimum of three years of professional driving experience, preferably within an international organization, embassy, or the UN system. A safe driving record is mandatory.
- Licensure: Possession of a valid driver’s license and extensive knowledge of local traffic regulations.
- Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic is required.
Desirable Assets
- Prior experience working in humanitarian or development contexts.
- Knowledge of an additional UN language.
