The Opportunity
The Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) at the EBRD is seeking full-time Summer Interns to join our team in London. The OCE provides intellectual leadership on the development of market economies across Emerging Europe, Central Asia, and Africa. We support the Bank’s operational strategy by monitoring macroeconomic risks and publishing high-level research.
This internship is specifically designed to support the production of the Transition Report, the Bank’s flagship annual publication. You will work alongside a team of 20 economists and analysts, contributing directly to the rigorous data analysis that underpins our policy recommendations.
Key Responsibilities
Data Analysis & Management
- Download, clean, and prepare complex datasets regarding macroeconomic and microeconomic developments in the EBRD regions.
- Conduct statistical analysis on household and enterprise survey data.
- Generate high-quality charts and graphs for inclusion in the Transition Report and executive presentations.
Research & Drafting
- Contribute to the drafting of working papers or specific chapters of the Transition Report.
- Monitor economic developments to provide rapid, succinct assessments to the Chief Economist and senior staff.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for candidates with a strong quantitative background and the ability to handle large datasets under tight deadlines.
Academic Qualifications
- Essential: Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. in Economics (or related field) OR holding a Master’s degree in Economics from a leading university.
- Note: Candidates with a quantitatively oriented Bachelor’s degree may be considered in exceptional cases.
Technical Skills
- Software: Strong command of econometric and statistical software is mandatory. Proficiency in STATA, R, or Python is required.
- Data Handling: Proven ability to manage and analyze large microeconomic and macroeconomic datasets.
- Communication: Excellent writing skills in English are essential for drafting policy sections.
Contract Logistics
- Duration: Minimum of 3 months.
- Timing: The internship will take place during the March – September 2026 window.
- Start Date: Ability to start early in this window is an advantage.
- Location: London, United Kingdom (Hybrid working model available).
